Rootsmagic Duplicate Search Merge (v4.0.9.6)
This is a great feature in any genealogy
program but in Rootsmagic v4 unfortunately it's a case of only it gave reliable and speedy
performance. The user applies certain match criteria and the program scans the database and presents you
with possible duplicate matches. Rootsmagic will assign a certain probability score to the match and you
decide whether to merge the individuals or not and then move to the next possible
match.
Rootsmagic V4 moved a stage further than the
simple text based list by providing a graphical colour system to help easily see what data matches and what does
not. Green is a match, Yellow a possible and Red highlights conflicting information.
Some issues were addressed by the developers
in version 4.0.9.5 but there still reports on the message
boards that all is
not exactly as it should be. I received a report written by one Rootsmagic user describing differences
between the performance of RM3 and RM4 in what is merged automatically and what RM4 presents as possible
matches. Read Helens report and download the files used on this link and test for
yourself.

There also remains a very valid point as to
why some of the individuals who appear through this Duplicate Search Merge feature have not already been merged
during the Automatic Merges like the example below where you can see and individual facts are a match, even the
spouse is a match, the only difference being the children.
