The Acer Aspire AS3935 design problem.
Well that's my opinion anyway and
unfortunately one born out of personal experience. After researching the Acer 3935 problem it was little
consolation to find out I was not alone in experiencing repeated problems with the Blue tooth, Wireless
(Wi-Fi) and Backup features on the Acer Aspire AS3935 model.
Acer decided to use a touch type panel on this
model rather than a tactile switch which I believe to be an error of judgement they and many of their users have
come to regret. The fault is that randomly and when you are least expecting it the Wi-Fi turns off
then on then off and the same goes for the Blue tooth and Backup features, leaving you with a notebook with a
mind of it's own that is impossible to work with and dropping your internet connection when you least expect
it.
So being a man of great faith I bundled the
computer up and got it shipped off to Acer. The repair turnaround was less than a week, media board and ribbon
cable replaced but the excitement soon died when on first power up the problem exhibited itself right away as you
can see from the video below.
So off to Acer again and this time the
computer was turned around even quicker, could that be good news or bad I thought. Well being a technical person
and reading that the firmware had simply been updated I was immediately sceptical, however I would give it a
go. All went well for about 2 months and then off we go again with the same problem so unfortunately off to Acer
for a third time where the operator told me my notebook would be assessed for replacement.
I was without the notebook this time for a
full 4 weeks constantly being fobbed of on the phone telling me a motherboard had been ordered then didn't arrive
then had to be ordered again. Anyway I got 3935 back just days before Acer would have been forced to replace it and
reportedly with a complete new motherboard. I was happy as I love the computer, I noticed that the touch pad for
the Blue tooth and Wireless was not as sensitive so that can't be a bad thing I thought. Not to be so as four
weeks later the fault reappeared so I have no confidence in the machine being repaired to overcome this inherent
problem which I can only conclude to be a design problem. Also following the replacement of the motherboard the
sound was also intermittent, luckily I noticed this as I normally have it on mute.
The following videos are lifted from other
users who have taken the time to record the problem and post a visual record of the very intermittent Blue tooth,
Wireless and Backup problem on the Acer AS3935 model, the first of which also describes having three repair
attempts.
